The people were enthralled with the popularity of Christ, but at the end He was deserted by the masses. Jesus saw the necessity of thinning out the crowds by saying hard things. Modern psychology would say He was very unwise here. Don't be offended in Christ as the crowds thin out. Stay faithful to Christ even if you don't understand everything.
